Assistance Dog Special Allowance Program (ADSA)
What is the Assistance Dog Special Allowance Program (ADSA)? The Assistance Dog Special Allowance (ADSA) program provides a monthly payment of $50 to eligible persons who use a guide, signal, or service dog to help them with their disability-related needs. The allowance is to help pay the costs of food, grooming, and health care for the dog.
The SMHS program provides medically necessary services to Medi-Cal beneficiaries.
Who is it for?
- A resident of California, receiving one of the following:
- SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
- SSP (State Supplementary Payment)
- SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance)
- IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services)
- CAPI (Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants)
How to apply?
- Complete the following forms:
- Form ADSA1 if applicant receives SSI, SSP, IHSS, or CAPI.
- Form ADSA1B if applicant receives SSDI
